The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts for seven districts in Karnataka's southern region, including Bengaluru, the state capital, due to the forecast of heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Districts such as Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Kodagu are expecting significant downpours, with rainfall amounts between 11 and 20 centimeters, prompting an orange alert for these areas.

With the monsoon now officially entering Kerala, its effects are starting to be felt in Karnataka, marked by the onset of rains. Meteorological officials have suggested that the monsoon's formal arrival in Karnataka could be announced by Sunday or Monday. Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu have already recorded considerable rainfall this Saturday. Residents are urged to stay alert and exercise caution as the weather patterns continue to change.
In Bengaluru, the heavy rainfall has affected the ED area, which was flooded by the evening downpour. In Yalchenahalli, the situation worsened as floodwaters invaded homes, leaving residents powerless. Front yards were submerged, with the sound of water gushing ominously as nearly two meters of floodwater flowed unchecked, seemingly ignored by officials.
Essential household items were swept away by the floods, which were also contaminated with decaying plastics, adding to the chaos. Overwhelmed by the foul smell and the relentless floodwaters, many residents were forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. The public is advised to remain indoors as much as possible and avoid traveling through waterlogged areas.
The Meteorological Department will continue to update the public on any further developments. It is crucial for everyone to follow the safety guidelines and remain cautious during this period of heavy rainfall. Authorities are working to manage the situation and help those affected by the flooding.
As the monsoon progresses, the intensity of rain is expected to increase, and more areas may experience heavy downpours. People are encouraged to stay informed by following weather updates and to prepare for possible emergencies. By taking precautions and staying vigilant, the community can better navigate through these challenging weather conditions.
