The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Gulmarg and the Directorate of Tourism Jammu staged a series of paragliding trials in the Jammu Division from November 14 to November 18. At Aithem, Mokhri, Dhanwa Saloon, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Patnitop, & Sanasar, paragliding trials were done.

The initiative was the first of its type for setting up paragliding pilot training in the Jammu area. The crew was dispatched by the Department of Tourism J&K to look into the top paragliding locations suited for teaching P3 and P4 courses to local youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The testing runs at Aithem, Dhanwa Saloon, Bhaderwah, Patnitop, etc. were successful, and soon the residents of Jammu Division would see gliders flying overhead, according to Vivekanand Rai, Director of Tourism for Jammu. The trials are also vital for safeguarding the safety of the adventure lovers, he stated.

Sunaina Mehta, joint director of tourism, stated that despite performing successful paragliding trials in these areas, the Jammu region has not fully tapped into the potential of paragliding due to a shortage of experienced labor as required by adventure tourism guidelines. Despite the fact that this innovative aspect of adventure tourism has been studied, she continued, "positive actions must be taken to make this activity safer as required by the Government." She continued, "For tourists, especially adventure seekers, flying in Jammu's sky while witnessing several off-the-beaten-path spots here will be an amazing and once-in-a-lifetime experience."

To promote the region as an adventure hub for tourists and to create livelihood opportunities as well as jobs in the tourism sector, the Department of Tourism J&K will soon hold professional (P1, P2, & P3) courses for youngsters in the month of December. Professionals who have completed P3 training will then be granted a P4 license, subject to a number of requirements, among them a minimum number of required flying hours. The Department's innovative project will usher in a new era of adventure travel, with a particular emphasis on paragliding in the Jammu region. The Department will fund the courses as a part of its efforts to acquire the necessary skills for adventure tourism to become a sustainable industry.
