The Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) has changed the plan for the Line 1C extension from Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar. Under the earlier plan approved during the previous Congress government, a Metro station at Ramganj Chaupar was proposed. But now, JMRC has dropped that station and prepared a new route plan.

Jaipur Metro's Revised Plan
According to the revised proposal, the extension will now have two stations, one underground station at Galta-ji Crossing on Delhi Road and one elevated station at Transport Nagar. JMRC chairman and managing director Vaibhav Galriya confirmed the change and explained the new alignment.
He said that from Badi Chaupar, the Metro line will continue as an underground corridor, passing below the Walled City area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It will first reach Galta-ji Crossing, where an underground station is planned. After that point, the corridor will move above ground, become elevated, and end at Transport Nagar.
Why is the Change Required?
Officials said the change was made mainly to protect the heritage character of the Walled City and avoid large-scale construction on the surface in this crowded old part of Jaipur. By keeping the line underground in this area, JMRC hopes to reduce traffic disruption, inconvenience to residents and shopkeepers, and any possible damage to heritage structures. Officials also believe that a station at Galta-ji may attract more passengers than the earlier Ramganj Chaupar proposal.
The 2.85-km extension of the Pink Line had received financial approval of Rs 993.51 crore in November 2022, and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot laid the foundation stone in September 2023.
After the BJP government came to power, the project was put on hold for some time for a feasibility review. At one stage, the government even considered diverting the line towards Amer Road via Hawa Mahal Road, but that idea faced criticism from Congress leaders.
Congress MLA Rafeek Khan has now questioned the removal of the Ramganj station, saying the distance argument is weak because the new proposed stations are also not very far apart. Interestingly, both Ramganj Chaupar and the Galta-ji area come under the same Adarsh Nagar Assembly constituency.
