IndiGo, the budget-friendly airline, announced its plan to initiate direct flights connecting Kolkata with Phuket starting from December 27. This new route marks IndiGo’s continuous effort to broaden its international footprint, particularly towards catering to the increasing travel demands from India to Thailand. Notably, this will be IndiGo’s second direct service to Phuket, with the first being from Delhi, offering a more extensive connection between India and Thailand.

The airline aims to facilitate easier access for tourists traveling from the eastern regions of India to Phuket. This initiative is expected to bolster tourism, trade, and commerce between India and the Southeast Asian region. Kolkata, being India's initial metropolitan city, serves as a significant gateway for Indian travelers heading to Southeast Asia. The city is rapidly upgrading its infrastructure to accommodate the growing travel demands to this region.
Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo's head of global sales, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the airline's network in Thailand, highlighting the addition of the Kolkata-Phuket route to their existing 11 weekly flights to Bangkok. "We are pleased to further expand our network into Thailand, from Kolkata, now adding a daily flight to Phuket in addition to the existing 11 weekly flights to Bangkok. With this new route, IndiGo will now operate 93 weekly flights between India and Thailand," Malhotra stated. He emphasized Phuket's appeal due to its serene beaches, cultural diversity, and the visa-free policy for Indian citizens, which is anticipated to stimulate an even greater influx of travelers.
For the specifics of the flight schedule, the Kolkata-Phuket flights will operate six days a week. The flight times vary throughout the week to accommodate travelers' needs. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, flights will depart early in the morning from Kolkata and arrive in Phuket before noon, local time. Similarly, the return flights from Phuket to Kolkata are scheduled across different days, ensuring convenience for passengers planning their return journeys.
Overall, this new addition to IndiGo’s flight schedule not only enhances the connectivity between India and Thailand but also reflects the airline's commitment to offering an affordable and comfortable travel experience. The strategic expansion into the Southeast Asian market underscores the growing importance of this region as a key tourist and trade destination for Indian travelers.
