Southern Railway has announced a weekly special train between Mangaluru Central and Chennai Egmore to provide additional travel options during the Onam festive season and to handle the expected rise in passenger demand between Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Mangaluru-Chennai Weekly Special Train
Train No. 06126 Mangaluru Central-Chennai Egmore Weekly Special will operate every Monday from July 13 to August 31, 2026, with eight services. It will depart from Mangaluru Central at 4 pm and reach Chennai Egmore at 10:55 am the following day.
The return service, Train No. 06125 Chennai Egmore-Mangaluru Central Weekly Special, will operate every Tuesday from July 14 to September 1. It will leave Chennai Egmore at 2 pm and reach Mangaluru Central at 8:40 am the next day.

The train will stop at several important stations along the route. These include Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Payyanur, Kannur, Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Junction, Palakkad Junction, Podanur Junction, Tiruppur, Erode Junction, Salem Junction, Jolarpettai Junction, Katpadi Junction, Arakkonam and Perambur, apart from the originating and terminating stations.
The special train will have 22 coaches to accommodate more passengers. Its composition includes two AC 2-Tier coaches, eight AC 3-Tier coaches, six Sleeper Class coaches, four General Second Class coaches, one Divyangjan-friendly Second Class coach, one luggage-cum-brake van and one generator car.
The additional service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Mangaluru, coastal Kerala and Chennai, particularly during the busy Onam season. With demand for railway tickets usually increasing during the festival period, the weekly special will provide additional capacity and another option for passengers planning their journeys.
