Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has announced additional train services to manage the expected increase in passenger numbers during the Onam festive season. The special arrangements will be in place from Saturday to Tuesday to provide smoother travel for people heading out for shopping, celebrations and other activities.

Kochi Metro Services
According to a Kochi Metro spokesperson, four additional train services will operate during the busy afternoon hours on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. These extra services will begin from 3 pm. During this period, trains will operate at a higher frequency, with the time between two trains reduced to 6 minutes and 45 seconds.
Kochi Metro's Arrangements to Handle Onam Rush
The Metro will introduce a different arrangement on Sunday as passenger demand is expected to be particularly high. Two additional trains will be placed into service, resulting in eight extra trips from 2:30 pm onwards. The gap between trains will also be reduced to 7 minutes and 13 seconds, allowing more passengers to travel without waiting long.
KMRL will also keep one additional train on standby during the festive period. This train can be deployed if there is a sudden increase in passenger numbers at any station. The arrangement is intended to help the Metro respond quickly to unexpected crowds and prevent overcrowding.
The additional services are expected to be especially useful during the Onam season, when large numbers of people travel across Kochi for shopping, family gatherings and festival celebrations. Major roads in the city are likely to experience increased traffic during this period.
KMRL has therefore encouraged passengers to use the Kochi Metro for their festive travel. Using public transport can help commuters avoid traffic congestion and reach popular shopping and celebration areas more conveniently.
