IMD Predicted Heavy Rains For Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, And More

The India Meteorological Department forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in states like Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh, issuing flash flood warnings and advisories for residents to take necessary precautions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall for several states on Wednesday, August 21. Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, Kerala, Assam, and Meghalaya are expected to experience significant downpours. The IMD's latest forecast also indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep over the next two days.

In Himachal Pradesh, the IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall on August 21, 25, and 26. Uttarakhand and Rajasthan will see similar weather through August 26. Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rain until August 24. Madhya Pradesh will experience heavy rainfall on August 21 and from August 23 to 26. Maharashtra will have heavy rains on August 21 and from August 24 to 26.

Heavy Rainfall Alerts Across States

Chhattisgarh is forecasted to receive heavy rainfall until August 24. Goa will experience continuous rain until August 26. Gujarat is expected to see isolated very heavy rainfall on August 21, 25, and 26. Additionally, Assam and Meghalaya will have very heavy rainfall on August 21 and 24. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also set for very heavy rain on August 21 and 25.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for six districts in Kerala due to persistent heavy rains. A yellow alert is in place for the rest of the state on Wednesday. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds are forecasted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

Flash Flood Warnings

The Meteorological Department has warned of a low to moderate flash flood risk in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts through Wednesday. Heavy rains continued in various parts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. Kuldeep Srivastava from Himachal Pradesh IMD stated that the monsoon would persist until the end of September due to atmospheric moisture affecting visibility conditions.

In Delhi, the Met office predicts mostly cloudy skies with light rain for Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to range between a high of around 33 degrees Celsius and a low of about 25 degrees Celsius. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy showers over the next three days with periods of rain likely continuing for five days.

Thunderstorms Expected in Telangana

The Met Centre reports that isolated locations in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak Kamareddy Mahabubnagar Nagarkurnool Wanaparthy Narayanpet Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana will experience heavy rain until 8:30 AM on August 21. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h are anticipated in these areas.

The IMD forecasts very heavy rainfall for Tripura over the next two days due to a low-pressure area over central Bangladesh moving north-northwestward across West Bengal within the next two days. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Agartala noted that this could lead to flash floods waterlogging landslides or mudslides in certain areas.
