Hyderabad, June 21, 2026: A much-needed respite from the intense summer heat is on the horizon for residents of Hyderabad and across Telangana, as weather conditions begin to shift under the influence of the advancing southwest monsoon. The latest updates from the meteorological department indicate a gradual drop in temperatures along with increasing chances of rainfall over the next few days.

Cloud Cover Brings Immediate Relief
As of Sunday morning, Hyderabad is witnessing mostly cloudy skies, with temperatures hovering around 29°C to 31°C, offering noticeable relief compared to the previous days of scorching heat. The "feels like" temperature remains slightly higher due to humidity levels nearing 59%, but the cloud cover has significantly reduced direct solar exposure.
Weather models suggest that today will remain largely cloudy, with afternoon thunderstorms and light showers likely in several parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to touch around 33°C to 34°C, while nighttime temperatures may dip to 24°C-26°C, making conditions more comfortable.
Rainfall Activity to Intensify
According to forecasts, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds (30-50 kmph) is expected across Telangana over the next 24 to 48 hours. Hyderabad, along with surrounding districts such as Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri, is likely to experience intermittent showers, particularly during evening and nighttime hours.
From June 22 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to intensify further, with heavy rains predicted in several northern and central districts. The rainfall spread will gradually cover almost all districts, including Hyderabad, between June 24 and June 26.
Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert warning for several districts, cautioning residents about thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Areas likely to be affected include Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Hyderabad, and others.
Authorities have advised citizens to:
- Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms
- Stay updated with local weather alerts
- Exercise caution while commuting, especially during heavy rain spells
- Temperature Set to Drop Further
In the coming days, maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 2°C to 5°C, especially in districts currently experiencing heatwave-like conditions. However, isolated pockets in northern Telangana may still witness brief heatwave conditions before rains fully take over.
7-Day Outlook for Hyderabad
The extended forecast indicates consistent cloud cover with periodic rain or thunderstorms throughout the week. While June 21-23 will see scattered showers, June 24-26 is likely to bring more widespread rainfall activity, signaling a stronger monsoon presence in the region.
Bottom Line: Hyderabad is transitioning into a cooler, rain-influenced weather phase. While the drop in temperature comes as a relief, residents should stay cautious of sudden thunderstorms and follow safety advisories as rainfall activity intensifies across Telangana.
