Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad highlighted the importance of working together to help Hyderabad regain its leading position in urban transport. He said that land acquisition work for Phase II of the Hyderabad Metro project has already started. Moreover, the government has approved land acquisition for

some new Metro corridors, and this process is expected to begin soon.
Hyderabad Metro Phase I
Speaking about the city's early achievements, Mr. Ahmad recalled that Hyderabad was one of the first cities in India to launch a metro rail project with Phase I. However, he pointed out that the Metro network is still limited to 69 km. He compared this with the Delhi Metro, which has expanded rapidly and now covers nearly 400 km. He said this shows the need for faster growth and better planning to strengthen Hyderabad's Metro system. Mr. Ahmad was discussing with Metro employees during the Republic Day celebrations held at Metro Rail Bhavan on Monday.
Why is it Important?
The Managing Director also spoke about several plans and the development of HMRL. He said the past year was necessary for the organisation, especially because a key decision was taken to bring the operations of the entire 69-km Phase-1 Metro network under HMRL's control. This step, he explained, would help improve efficiency and ensure better management of Metro services.
Mr. Ahmad encouraged employees to stay committed and work together to achieve the goals set for the next phase of expansion. He stressed that teamwork and dedication would be essential to the Metro network's successful growth in the coming years. The event was attended by Chief Electrical Engineer DVS Raju, along with other senior officials and HMRL staff members. The event details were shared through an official press release.
