The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) is preparing to finalise the tender for Phase 2 of the Gurugram Metro project. Officials said on Wednesday that the tender is expected to be issued by the end of December this year. According to GMRL, the tender process was delayed because the final
location of the last station near Shankar Chowk had not been confirmed. That issue has now been settled, allowing the project to move forward.
Official's Planned Design
A senior official shared that the structural designs for the 13 stations planned under Phase 2 in Old Gurugram are almost ready. The tender documents and the estimated construction details are also nearing completion. He added that Phase 2 will be an elevated metro line and, if everything goes according to schedule, the work contract will be awarded by March next year. GMRL is also coordinating with other agencies to shift utilities early so that construction can start without delays. The final cost of the project is still being decided.
Phase 2 Metro Stations
Phase 2 of the metro will include a 13 km line with 14 stations. These stations will be located at Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5, Cyber City, and a spur line towards Gurugram Railway Station. The new route will also have interchange connections to the Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail, improving overall connectivity.
New Land Acquisition Policy
To speed up construction, GMRL has introduced a new land acquisition policy. It allows land to be purchased through direct negotiation with owners by a committee led by the deputy commissioner, ensuring faster compensation and smoother progress. Work on Phase 1, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, began on September 3, and the casting yard setup is expected to be ready by December 15.
