Panaji reported a noticeable increase in international tourists visiting Goa, with figures reaching 4.67 lakh in the last year, up from 4.52 lakh the previous year, as stated by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte. This growth marks a significant rebound after the tourism sector faced challenges due to global circumstances, with a dip to just 22,128 foreign visitors in 2021 from 3,00,193 in 2020. The resurgence continued through 2022, with 1.69 lakh international tourists, highlighting a robust recovery trajectory for Goa's tourism industry.
Foreign tourists made their way to Goa via multiple entry points, including chartered and scheduled international flights, cruises, and even domestic flights, as detailed by the minister. This diverse influx of international visitors underscores the coastal state's appeal and accessibility to a global audience. The state's capacity to attract tourists through various travel modes plays a crucial role in bolstering its tourism sector.
Rohan Khaunte shared these insights while responding to a query from Goa Forward party MLA Vijai Sardesai during the state assembly's winter session. The assembly convened for this two-day session on February 6 and 7, where various issues, including tourism growth, were discussed.
