Delhi experienced its wettest day of the season on Friday, with continuous rainfall affecting several parts of the capital. It was also the fourth consecutive rainy day, putting the city's roads and drainage systems under severe pressure. Heavy rain led to waterlogging on several major roads, especially in south and central Delhi, causing long traffic jams. The rain also resulted in at least 16 trees being uprooted and nine incidents of houses or walls collapsing.
Delhi Rain Alert on 8 August
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Saturday, when light to moderate rain is expected. Rainfall intensity is likely to decrease from Sunday, with only light to very light showers expected through next Thursday. Temperatures may rise to 33-35°C from Sunday, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 22°C and 24°C.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Safdarjung, Delhi's main weather station, recorded 127mm of rain during the first seven days of August. This made it the wettest first week of August in at least 16 years. The station received another 77.1mm of rain in the 12 hours up to 8.30 pm on Friday.
South and southwest Delhi received some of the heaviest rainfall. Pushp Vihar recorded the highest rainfall at 147.5mm between 8.30 am and 8 pm, followed by Chhatarpur with 131mm. Aya Nagar received 87.4mm, Palam 88.7mm, Jharoda Kalan 69.5mm, Janakpuri 72mm and Pusa 67.5mm.
The IMD classifies rainfall of up to 15.5mm as light, 15.6mm to 64.4mm as moderate and 64.5mm to 115.5mm as heavy in 24 hours. Safdarjung recorded 77.1mm, while the Ridge received 49.6mm and Lodhi Road 49.3mm during the day.
The heavy rain also caused a sharp drop in temperatures. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 27.5°C, around seven degrees below normal, while the minimum was 25.6°C.
The rain also improved Delhi's air quality by washing away pollutants. The city's AQI stood at 63 on Friday, remaining in the satisfactory category for the eighth consecutive day.
