Goa’s Bom Jesus Basilica to Get Infrastructure Upgrade; The Scheme to Improve Facilities

The Ministry of Tourism, under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD), is providing financial assistance to State Governments and Union Territories for improving tourism facilities at important pilgrimage and heritage sites. This scheme aims to develop better infrastructure to make religious and cultural destinations more accessible and comfortable for visitors.

Development Plans

As part of this initiative, the famous Bom Jesus Basilica in Goa has been selected for development. The following improvements will be made:

- Parking facilities for visitors.

- Interpretation Centre to provide historical and cultural information.

- Better street lighting for safety and visibility.

- E-auto services for eco-friendly transport.

- Illumination of the monument's facade to enhance its beauty at night.

- CI park benches for visitors to rest.

- Informational and directional signage to help tourists navigate the area.

- Dustbins to maintain cleanliness.

- Visitor footfall counting devices to monitor the number of tourists.

These developments aim to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the heritage of the Basilica.

Other Tourism Development Projects

Under the PRASHAD scheme, other important religious sites are also being developed across India. In Maharashtra, three sites have been identified:

- Shri Ghrushneshwar Shivalaya
- Tuljapur
- Shre Kshetra Rajur

The government is continuously accepting proposals from states and UTs for tourism projects. These proposals are carefully reviewed, and funds are provided based on the guidelines, conditions, and availability of resources.

Union Minister's Statement in Lok Sabha

The information about this scheme was shared by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a written reply in Lok Sabha today. The PRASHAD scheme is an important step towards boosting religious tourism and ensuring that pilgrimage sites have modern, visitor-friendly facilities.
