Onam Sadya: A Celebration in the Air
In a social media announcement, the airline shared, "Onam is a festival of abundance, togetherness, and cherished traditions. At its heart lies the Sadya-a meal that brings people together through its rich flavors. This festive season, we are delighted to present a limited-edition Onasadya as part of our 'Gourmair' inflight dining experience."
The specially curated Onam Sadya by Air India Express includes an array of authentic Kerala delicacies such as Matta rice with Parippu, Sambar, Avial, Kootu Curry, and Erissery. The feast is further complemented with Thoran, Mango Pickle, Inji Puli, Banana Chips, and Sharkara Varatti. Understanding Onam Sadya
The Onam Sadya, a traditional vegetarian feast, holds a central place in the Onam celebrations. Typically featuring 26 to 28 dishes, it includes rice, curries, pickles, papad, and concludes with the much-loved dessert Payasam. Served on a banana leaf, this grand meal symbolizes abundance and community bonding.
Onam itself is a ten-day festival celebrated in the Malayalam month of Chingam, which usually falls between August and September. The festivities begin with Atham day, aligned with the Atham Nakshatra, and culminate on Thiruvonam, the most important day of the festival.
For 2025, Onam festivities began on August 26 and will conclude on Friday, September 5, according to drikpanchang.com. With families uniting to celebrate this joyous occasion, the availability of Onam Sadya even on flights adds a unique touch, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the festive spirit while on the move.
