Northern Railway's Jammu division has decided to extend the services of special reserved trains running between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra due to a heavy passenger rush. Railway officials shared this update on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The trains will now run four more trips in each direction, with the final service scheduled for January 27.

Delhi-Vaishno Devi Trains
According to officials, Train No. 04081, which runs from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, will operate these additional trips from January 23 to January 26. In the return direction, Train No. 04082, running from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi, will operate from January 24 to January 27. Earlier, these special trains were scheduled to run for a limited period, with Train No. 04081 operating from December 27, 2025, to January 17, 2026, and Train No. 04082 from December 28, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Extension of Services
Railway officials said the decision to extend the services was taken because the trains have seen almost full occupancy during their earlier runs. The strong response from passengers highlighted that there was a continued need for these special services, especially during the busy travel season.
Special Reserved Trains
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal explained that the special reserved trains have been helpful not only for passengers travelling to and from Jammu and Kashmir, but also for those boarding or getting down at stations along the route. These include important stations such as Jalandhar Cantt., Ludhiana, and Ambala Cantt., which see a large number of travelers.
Due to high demand and positive response, Northern Railway decided to extend the train services once again. Passengers planning to travel are advised to check the updated timetable and train details before starting their journey to avoid any inconvenience.
