To help people travel safely and easily after New Year celebrations, Mumbai's suburban railway network will run 12 special local trains in the early hours of January 1, railway officials said on Thursday.

Special Trains to Run by Western Railway & Central Railway
Out of these, eight special trains will be operated by Western Railway and four by Central Railway. These additional services are being arranged to manage the extra rush of passengers returning home after midnight celebrations.
According to Central Railway, two special trains will run on the main line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kalyan, while two more will operate on the Harbour line between CSMT and Panvel. All four Central Railway special trains will halt at every station along their routes.
Timings of Special Trains
The special trains from CSMT and Kalyan will leave at 1.30 am and reach their destinations by 3.00 am. Similarly, the trains running between CSMT and Panvel will also depart at 1.30 am and complete their journeys by around 2.50 am, the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, Western Railway will operate eight special suburban local trains between Churchgate and Virar. Of these, four trains will depart from Churchgate at 1.15 am, 2.00 am, 2.30 am, and 3.25 am. The remaining four trains will start from Virar at 12.15 am, 12.45 am, 1.40 am, and 3.05 am.
Railway officials stated these special services aim to ensure smooth travel for late-night commuters and partygoers, and to reduce overcrowding on regular trains during New Year's celebrations. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow safety guidelines while travelling.
