Construction of Kanpur's metro line between the Agriculture University and Barra-8 is moving ahead quickly. As part of this progress, the installation of I-Girders has now started on this 4.5 km-long stretch. The first I-Girder was placed near the Vijay Nagar Chauraha metro station. These I-Girders are important components used

in elevated metro structures, especially at locations where the tracks need to crossover or change direction.
Installation of Girders
In total, around 164 I-Girders will be installed along this elevated section of Corridor-2. Each girder is being manufactured at the Naubasta casting yard. As the name suggests, I-Girders are shaped like the English letter 'I'. Their special design makes them suitable for managing track changes or junctions in the metro route. These girders will play a key role in strengthening the elevated structure and ensuring smooth train movement at crossover points. With the launch of I-Girders, the project has entered an important phase of construction.
Metro Work Progress
Officials have said that the work is progressing as per schedule, and more girders will be installed in the coming days. Once all 164 girders are placed, the structure for the elevated track will be nearly complete, allowing further work like track laying and electrification to begin. The timely installation of I-Girders shows that the project is moving forward steadily, bringing the city one step closer to improved metro connectivity. Residents in areas like Vijay Nagar and Barra are eagerly waiting for the service, as it is expected to reduce traffic and provide faster transport options.
With continuous work at the casting yard and installation sites, the metro team aims to complete this phase soon and maintain the fast pace of construction.
