CIDCO announced on Monday that Navi Mumbai's first metro line has crossed one crore (10 million) passengers in just two years since operations began in November 2023. The city planning authority also said that the current Metro Line 1 will be extended from Belapur to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International

Airport (NMIA), which is expected to start commercial flights from December 25.
Mumbai's Metro Line 1
Metro Line 1, which runs between Belapur and Pendhar, has recorded a total ridership of 1,15,28,297 commuters in two years. CIDCO said this milestone shows that more and more people are choosing the metro because it is fast, dependable, and affordable. These include running trains every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during non-peak hours, as well as keeping ticket prices low, between Rs 10 and Rs 30. The line serves the areas of Belapur, Kharghar, and Taloja.
CIDCO's Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal congratulated the metro team for their efforts and noted the steady growth in daily passengers. He said that crossing one crore riders in only two years proves how popular the service has become. According to him, the metro has greatly improved travel to offices, residential areas, and industrial zones in these parts of Navi Mumbai.
Mumbai's Metro Line 2
CIDCO also confirmed progress on Metro Line 2, which will link Pendhar to Taloja MIDC and then to the Navi Mumbai International Airport through Kalamboli and Kamothe. This new line will be around 16 km long and will further improve connectivity in the region once completed.
