Pune Metro connectivity is expected to expand from May as the first phase of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro corridor is likely to begin operations around that time. This announcement was made by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on Sunday during the inauguration of Pune Metro Bhavan near the Civil Court

metro station.
Pune Metro Corridor Progress
Fadnavis said that work on the new metro corridor is progressing quickly. The first section of the line may start running in May, while the remaining portion could become operational by July. The full corridor is about 23 kilometres long and will have 23 elevated stations. It will connect Shivajinagar, a major transport hub, with Hinjewadi, which is home to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and several large IT companies.
Pune Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Corridor
According to the chief minister, once the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor opens, Pune will have about 55 kilometres of operational metro network. At the same time, construction is currently underway on another 55 kilometres of metro lines across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. In addition, metro projects covering more than 80 kilometres are in the planning stage. The long-term plan is to build around 200 kilometres of metro network across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan Region to improve transport and reduce traffic congestion.
Once operational, the line will help reduce heavy traffic on the Hinjewadi-Baner-University Circle-Shivajinagar route, which currently faces major congestion during peak hours due to the large number of IT employees travelling to work.
