The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced a scheduled power shutdown in parts of Chennai to carry out regular maintenance and repair work. The outage will last only for a few hours, and power supply is expected to be restored before 5 PM on Saturday, once the maintenance work

is completed. According to officials, this is part of routine upkeep to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply. The number of affected neighbourhoods is relatively small, and efforts will be made to resume power as soon as the work is done.
Areas to be Affected in Chennai
The areas in Chennai that will experience the power outage include Jawaharlal Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, Padiyanallur, Nethaji Nagar, and Bypass Road. Residents in these localities are advised to plan for the temporary disruption and charge their essential devices in advance. Earlier this week, several other districts across Tamil Nadu also experienced scheduled power cuts due to similar maintenance activities. The districts affected on Thursday included Erode, Karur, Villupuram, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Palladam, Perambalur, Mettur, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Coimbatore.
Why is the Power Maintenance Carried Out?
Officials from TNEB stated that these planned power interruptions are important to upgrade infrastructure and prevent unexpected breakdowns in the future. Such maintenance helps improve the stability of the electricity network and ensures a long-term, uninterrupted power supply.
Advisory for Chennai Residents
The board has also urged citizens to cooperate during the maintenance period and take necessary precautions to avoid inconvenience. With the repair work expected to be completed on time, normal power supply will be restored by Saturday evening, bringing relief to residents in the affected areas.
