To help people travelling for the Karthigai Deepam festival, Southern Railway has announced special MEMU trains between Tambaram and Tiruvannamalai during the first week of December.
New Train To Run From Tambaram
According to the railway, Train No. 06049 will run from Tambaram to Tiruvannamalai on December 3 and 4. The train will depart from Tambaram at 9:15 AM and arrive in Tiruvannamalai at 1:30 PM on the same day. These will be two special services operated only for the festival. For the return journey, Train No. 06050 will run from Tiruvannamalai to Tambaram on both December 3 and 4. This train will depart from Tiruvannamalai at 5:00 PM and reach Tambaram at 9:00 PM on the same day.
Features of Special Trains
These special trains are unreserved, meaning passengers can board with general tickets. The services have been planned to manage the increased number of devotees travelling to Tiruvannamalai for the festival, which is one of the most important religious events in Tamil Nadu.
Southern Railway's Update
Southern Railway shared the schedule through its social media platforms, encouraging travellers to make use of these additional trains. The timing of both the onward and return journeys has been arranged to ensure comfortable travel for pilgrims making a same-day trip or planning to return in the evening.
Deepam Festival
The festival usually brings large crowds to Tiruvannamalai, especially to visit the Arunachaleswarar Temple and participate in the Deepam celebrations. These extra train services are expected to reduce the rush and make travel smoother for devotees.
