On Monday morning in Bengaluru, trains on the Namma Metro Yellow Line were delayed because a group of passengers stopped the first train from leaving the RV Road station. These passengers stood on the platform and blocked the train as a way of protesting. They wanted the metro to start
its services earlier in the morning. Because of this incident, the first train, which was supposed to depart at 6:00 am, could only start at 6:35 am. This delay also affected all the other trains scheduled after it.
BMRCL's Adjustments to Normalize the Yellow Line
To bring the Yellow Line service back to normal, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had to make adjustments. One of the trains was short-looped at Silk Board, meaning it was turned back early to reduce delays and balance the service.
BMRCL's Take On the Issue
BMRCL later said that blocking metro operations is a serious offence under the Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. People who cause such disruptions can face fines, jail time, or both. The metro authority added that they have filed a police complaint so that further action can be taken against those involved.
BMRCL also admitted that the Yellow Line currently has a later start time compared to other metro lines. It explained that all five trainsets available for the Yellow Line are being used during peak hours. The corporation said they had already improved timings earlier. On November 1, the start time was changed from 6:30 am to 6:00 am, and the frequency during peak hours was improved from 19 minutes to 15 minutes after introducing the fifth trainset.
BMRCL assured that the service will get even better in the coming months as more trains are added to the Yellow Line fleet.
