Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has made a big promise about the future of Bihar's road network. Speaking at events in Bodh Gaya, he announced that by 2029, Bihar's national highways would be as advanced as those in the United States. This goal aligns with the 15-year tenure of the BJP-led NDA government, highlighting their commitment to improving the state's infrastructure.

Major Road Projects for Development
Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth ₹3,700 crore during his visit. These projects aim to improve connectivity and make Bihar a hub for development and culture. Key initiatives include the expansion of the Bakhtiyarpur-Rajauli section of National Highway-20 and widening the road from Rajouli to Haldia. These improvements will strengthen links between Bihar and Jharkhand while benefiting districts like Nawada.
Another important project is the widening of the Hasanpur to Bakhtiyarpur road. This upgrade will make travel smoother between Nalanda and Patna, two important districts. These improvements will not only help local communities but also boost trade and tourism in popular destinations like Bodh Gaya and Rajgir.
Investment in Bihar's Future
Gadkari shared several new proposals to take Bihar's road network to the next level. One major project is the ₹5,100 crore upgrade of the 90-kilometer stretch between Mokama and Munger. Additionally, 11 rail overbridges will be built across nine cities at a cost of ₹1,250 crore.
One of the most ambitious plans is the construction of a greenfield ring road around Patna. With an estimated budget of ₹10,000 crore, this project aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the state capital.
Boosting Tourism and Trade
The improved road network is expected to make traveling easier for locals and tourists alike. Key cultural heritage sites like Bodh Gaya, known for its religious significance, will become more accessible. Enhanced connectivity will also promote trade and create opportunities for economic growth in Bihar.
A Bold Vision for Bihar
Nitin Gadkari expressed confidence in the rapid progress being made under the NDA government. "By 2029, Bihar's highway network will match the standards of the United States," he said. This ambitious vision reflects the government's dedication to improving India's infrastructure and setting new benchmarks for development.
These initiatives mark a significant step towards transforming Bihar's infrastructure. With substantial investments and well-planned projects, the state is on the path to becoming a model for road connectivity and development. By aiming for U.S.-level highway standards, the government is ensuring a brighter and more connected future for Bihar.
