Bhopal: A major disruption in water supply has been reported across the city, with nearly 75 localities set to face shortages following a power outage at the Kolar Filter Plant. The issue, which began on Thursday, has impacted water distribution lines connected to the Kolar system, leaving several residential and commercial pockets without supply on Friday morning.

According to municipal sources, the outage at the Kolar Filter Plant interrupted pumping operations, directly affecting supply to areas dependent on this line. In addition, a technical fault in an 800 mm GSR valve at the Manuabhan Filter Plant has compounded the situation, particularly impacting zones 16 and 17.
Areas Affected by Water Supply Disruption
A wide stretch of Bhopal has been impacted, covering both central and peripheral localities. Key affected areas include:
- Arera Colony (E-6, E-7), Tulsi Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, AG Colony, Bank Colony, Janta Quarters, Paras City, Nupur Kunj, MIG and LIG Quarters
- Barkhedikala, New Shabri Nagar, New Basera, Rajiv Nagar Basti, Pampapur, Nishatpura and surrounding regions
- Arif Nagar, New Arif Nagar, Bagh Nuzhat Afza, Hamidia Road, Cantonment, Patel Nagar, Bal Vihar, Medical Street and nearby areas
- Ibrahimpura, Itwara, Mangalwara, Azad Market, Budhwara, Peer Gate, Chowk Imambada, Noor Mahal Road, Shahjahanabad pockets
- Kotwali Road, Marwari Road, Electronic Market, Talaiya Police Station area, Kabadikhana, Chhola Vishram Ghat and adjoining localities
Civic authorities indicated that several inner-city areas, including Chowkse Nagar, Rambha Nagar, Shanti Nagar, and parts near Choti Masjid, are also among those facing supply interruptions.
Cause of Disruption
The primary reason behind the disruption is the power failure at the Kolar Filter Plant, which halted water treatment and pumping operations. Simultaneously, a valve malfunction at the Manuabhan Tekri facility further reduced supply capacity, delaying restoration efforts.
Power Cuts Also Reported
In a related development, around 25 areas in Bhopal are expected to face power cuts lasting two to four hours on Friday due to maintenance work. These outages may further delay restoration in some pockets.
Advisory for Residents
Residents in affected areas have been advised to:
- Store adequate water in advance
- Use available water judiciously
- Rely on alternative arrangements such as tankers if required
Officials have stated that restoration work is underway and supply is expected to normalise gradually once technical issues are resolved.
Outlook
With rising summer temperatures already putting pressure on civic utilities, the disruption highlights the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to technical faults. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are working to ensure that regular water supply resumes at the earliest across all affected areas.
