As Bengaluru experienced both unusual heat and heavy rainfall in recent times, April 2026 was a month of extreme weather, as per the India Meteorological Department. The month was hotter and more humid than usual. The average maximum temperature reached 35.19°C, which is higher than the normal 34.1°C. Night temperatures

were also warmer, with an average minimum of 23.55°C compared to the usual 22.1°C. This made the overall weather uncomfortable for residents.
Bengaluru Rains
However, towards the end of the month, Bengaluru saw a dramatic shift. On April 29, the city recorded extremely heavy rainfall. In just 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on April 30, 111.5 mm of rain was recorded. This made it the wettest April day in the city's history, breaking the previous record of 108.6 mm set in 2001. Surprisingly, out of the total 113 mm of rainfall received in April, almost all of it fell within this single day. Normally, the city receives about 61.7 mm of rain in April.
Rainfall varied across different parts of the city. Some areas, like Bengaluru Urban, recorded 102 mm, while others like Sampangiramanagar, Cottonpet, and Chamarajpet received between 77 mm and 92 mm. The hailstorm on Wednesday evening also caused temperatures to drop sharply, with the minimum falling to 18.2°C, which is much lower than normal. However, not all areas experienced the same conditions. Places like HAL Airport and Kempegowda International Airport recorded much less rainfall and almost normal temperatures.
