Bengaluru residents are facing a power outage that started on 11 July and will continue through 12 and 13 July, as per the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM). These outages, scheduled between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., are part of planned infrastructure upgrades affecting multiple areas.

Reason Behind Bengaluru's Power Outage
The temporary power disruption is due to essential maintenance and upgrades on the Sarjapura-Attibele 66 kV transmission line, according to BESCOM. This initiative aims to strengthen the city's power grid for improved electricity reliability in the future. Thousands of homes, businesses, and industrial units across southern and southeastern localities will be impacted.
In June, BESCOM also scheduled several power cuts in different locations for maintenance purposes. The current effort is directed at ensuring a stable power supply across Bengaluru in the long run.
Areas Affected by Power Cuts
The power cut will impact various neighbourhoods and industrial zones serviced by specific stations. Areas likely to experience outages include Yadavanahalli, Ichanaguru, Vaddarapalya, Attibele Industrial Area, Balagaranahalli, Manchanahalli, Attibele Town, Mayasandra, Dasanapura, Balluru, Kambipura, Chikkanahalli, Indlabele, Harohalli, Anekal Town, Kaval Hosahalli, Gowrenahalli, Haldenahalli, Hompalagatta, Choodenahalli, Honakahaapura, Karapura, Byagadadenahalli. Additional affected areas are Kada Agrahara, Chikkahagade, Doddahagade, Samanuru, Kachamannahalli, Guddadahalli, Aravantigepura, P. Gollahalli, Telagarahalli and Vanakanahalli.
BESCOM's Statement on Power Disruptions
BESCOM officials have stated that these outages are part of a broader mission to upgrade Bengaluru's electricity infrastructure. While short-term disruptions are unavoidable now, they aim to ensure a more stable and efficient power supply in the long term.
Precautions for Residents During Scheduled Outages
Residents should take precautions during the scheduled outages from 6 AM to 8 PM. Charge essential devices like phones and laptops in advance. Ensure backup systems such as inverters or UPS are fully charged. Plan work-from-home schedules accordingly to avoid connectivity issues.
It's advisable to stock up on water for drinking and cooking if reliant on electric pumps. Avoid using elevators during outages to prevent getting stuck due to sudden power loss. Postpone using high-power appliances until electricity is restored.
Stay informed through BESCOM's official website for real-time updates on outage schedules. This proactive approach can help minimise inconvenience during the planned power cuts.
