Bengaluru Police Issue Safety Guidelines for Gowri-Ganesha Festival 2024, Starting on Sept 7

The Bengaluru City Police have released detailed guidelines to ensure the safe and peaceful celebration of the Gowri-Ganesha festival, starting on September 7, 2024. This festival is one of the most cherished events in Bengaluru, drawing large crowds to various pandals across the city. To maintain order and ensure everyone enjoys the festivities safely, the police have laid down several important rules.

Gowri-Ganesha Festival 2024

Permissions and Approvals

Organizers planning to install Ganesha idols in public spaces must first obtain the necessary permissions. This includes approvals from the local police station and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Additionally, if any electrical setups are involved, clearance from the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) is required. Organizers must also secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department and traffic police to ensure all safety measures are in place.

Safety Measures

Safety is a top priority during the festival. Organizers are required to install CCTV cameras at the venues where idols are placed. They must also have fire extinguishers on hand and display emergency contact numbers clearly. To prevent accidents, the use of cooking fuels like wood, kerosene, or stoves near idol installations is strictly prohibited.

Noise Restrictions

The police have also imposed restrictions on the use of loudspeakers to minimize noise disturbance. Loudspeakers can only be used between 6 AM and 1 PM. High-volume sound systems and DJs are not allowed at any time, ensuring that the festival does not disrupt the lives of senior citizens, schoolchildren, and other members of the community.

Environmental Guidelines

In line with directives from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, organizers must adhere to specific environmental guidelines. The Karnataka High Court has also prohibited the use of flexes, boards, and banners, so these must not be used during the festival.

Crowd Management

With large crowds expected at many pandals, organizers are responsible for managing the flow of devotees. This includes setting up barricades to control crowds and ensuring that no incidents of harassment or misbehavior occur, especially towards women.

Idol Immersion

Another important guideline is that the immersion of Ganesha idols must be completed before 10 PM. This rule helps to reduce the impact on daily life and ensures that the festival concludes peacefully.
