The bustling city of Bengaluru is all set to welcome the Namma Metro Yellow Line, a transformative addition to its urban transport network. Scheduled to launch in late January 2025, this 19.15 km metro line will connect RV Road to Bommasandra, offering smoother and faster commutes for thousands of residents. With a budget of ₹5,745 crore, this state-of-the-art project will improve access to key areas like Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City, making travel across the southern industrial and residential zones of Bengaluru more efficient.

Features of the Yellow Line
One of the standout features of this metro line is the Jayadeva Hospital station, set to be India's tallest metro station at a height of 39 meters. This six-level marvel will act as an interchange hub for the Yellow and Pink Lines. The station will include an underpass, road, flyover, concourse, and platforms, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that three trains will initially operate on the Yellow Line at 30-minute intervals, ensuring a smooth start to operations. With time, this will expand to 36 trains, including 15 six-coach sets, by August 2025. These trains will blend international expertise and domestic production, with some manufactured in China and others in West Bengal.
Modern Technology and Enhanced Safety
The Yellow Line will introduce advanced, driverless trains equipped with modern signalling, traction, and braking systems. Safety inspections by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) are planned for January 2025, ensuring that the metro adheres to the highest safety and passenger convenience standards.
This new metro line is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion in one of the busiest parts of the city. It also aims to provide a reliable and environmentally friendly commuting option for Bengaluru's residents.
Challenges and Solutions
While the Yellow Line brings numerous benefits, challenges remain. The Bommasandra station, for instance, has raised concerns over the lack of a pedestrian pathway. Commuters traveling to nearby areas such as Jigani, Bommasandra, Chandapura, and Attibele may face difficulties due to this oversight. The BMRCL is working to address these issues to ensure the line meets its goal of accessibility for all.
The Namma Metro Yellow Line is set to revolutionize Bengaluru's public transport system. With its modern infrastructure, improved connectivity, and commitment to safety and accessibility, the Yellow Line is a crucial step in transforming Bengaluru into a more commuter-friendly city. As residents eagerly await its opening, the project symbolizes the city's progress and determination to meet the needs of its growing population.
