The Bengaluru metro network, known as Namma Metro, is planning to grow in the next couple of years. Currently, the metro system covers about 96 km with 83 stations, and the network is expected to grow to approximately 175 km, with about 127 stations, nearly doubling its current size, over the next two years.

Namma Metro Expansion
Because of the metro expansion, the number of lifts and escalators needed at stations will also increase a lot. Officials say the expanded system will require about 500 lifts and nearly 1,000 escalators, help people move between ground level and platforms easily, especially at busy interchange stations where many passengers switch trains.
Metro leaders point out that as the system grows and more people use it every day, maintaining the lifts and escalators well will be important for safety and smooth travel. If escalators break down during peak hours, it can cause problems like crowded stairs and possible accidents. So, they are focusing on reliable equipment and long-term service contracts to keep everything working.
Why is the Expansion Necessary?
The expansion to 175 km is part of a wider plan to improve Bengaluru's public transport and reduce traffic on city roads. The longer network will connect more areas of the city and make commuting easier for many residents. In addition to the new lifts and escalators, the metro's expansion includes adding new lines and stations to give people more options for getting around Bengaluru quickly and comfortably.
Moreover, the push to build more metro lines and install lots of new lifts and escalators shows the city's commitment to making Namma Metro a bigger, safer, and more convenient system for everyone.
