Metro passengers travelling on Bengaluru's Yellow Line will now enjoy more frequent train services during busy hours. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that a seventh train has been added to passenger service from January 15. With this addition, metro trains on the Yellow Line will run every

10 minutes during peak hours, instead of the earlier 13-minute gap. This change will be in effect from Monday to Saturday and is expected to reduce overcrowding during rush hours.
Increase in Train Frequency
On Sundays, there will also be a slight improvement in peak-hour services. Train frequency will increase from once every 15 minutes to once every 14 minutes. However, BMRCL clarified that there will be no change in the first and last train timings from the terminal stations at RV Road and Bommasandra on any day.
New Digital Ticketing
Along with better train frequency, BMRCL has also introduced a new digital ticketing option to make metro travel easier and faster. From January 15, passengers can buy mobile-based QR code unlimited travel passes for 1 day, 3 days, or 5 days using the official Namma Metro mobile app. These passes allow unlimited travel within the chosen time period.
Benefit of QR Passes
One major benefit of these QR passes is that commuters no longer need to pay the ₹50 refundable security deposit that was earlier required for contactless smart cards. Instead, passengers can simply scan the QR code on their mobile phones at the automatic fare gates while entering and exiting metro stations.
The prices for the new passes are ₹250 for one day, ₹550 for three days, and ₹850 for five days. According to BMRCL, this initiative will help reduce long queues at ticket counters and improve overall convenience for daily and occasional metro users.
With more frequent trains and easier digital ticketing, BMRCL aims to make metro travel smoother and more comfortable for Bengaluru commuters.
