The Karnataka government has given in-principle approval for the Bengaluru-Hyderabad Bullet Train project, and is now moving to the next stage, with the Central and State governments starting discussions on land acquisition and finalising the route.

Bengaluru-Hyderabad Bullet Train Project
The proposed high-speed rail corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Hyderabad to around two hours. At present, regular train journeys between the two cities take nearly 8 to 12 hours. Although flights are quicker, airport formalities and waiting time often increase the total travel duration. The bullet train is expected to provide faster and more convenient travel, especially for business travellers and professionals.
Important Stations to be Included
The corridor will cover around 626 km and pass through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. However, 101 km of the route will be within Karnataka. Three important stations are planned in the state: Alipura in Gauribidanur Taluk, Devanahalli near Kempegowda International Airport, and Kodihalli in Bengaluru Rural district. The Devanahalli station is expected to improve airport connectivity, while Kodihalli may become a major interchange station that could connect with the proposed Bengaluru-Chennai high-speed rail line in the future. Outside Karnataka, the route is likely to include stations at Hindupur, Anantapur, Kurnool, and Mahbubnagar before reaching Hyderabad. Overall, the corridor is expected to have around 12 stations across the three states. The bullet train is planned to run at a design speed of 350 kmph and an operational speed of around 320 kmph. Most of the corridor will be built on elevated tracks instead of existing railway lines.
Preparation of DPR
The Central government has already approved the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for high-speed rail lines connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru, and Chennai has completed the initial survey for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru route. The DPR is expected to be completed by March 2027. Land acquisition is currently the main priority. Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M. B. Patil said the state government will fully support the project.
