Bengaluru Records Heavy Rainfall; BBMP Issues Helpline Numbers, Are Schools Closed on Tue?

Bengaluru and other regions in Karnataka are expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday. Cyclone Fengal is the cause of this weather pattern. Heavy rain was recorded in many parts of Bengaluru on Tuesday night. Although schools remain open, BBMP has provided helpline numbers for various zones. However, a holiday was declared on Tuesday in Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Chamarajanagara, and Mysuru.

Bengaluru Brace for Heavy Rains

Rainfall began in Bengaluru on Sunday evening and is anticipated to continue. According to IMD officials, Coastal Karnataka and parts of South Interior Karnataka will likely see widespread rainfall today, with light to moderate showers expected on Tuesday. The intensity of rainfall is predicted to decrease from the third day onwards in these areas.
Weather Alerts Issued

A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru and districts such as Hassan, Mandya, and Ramanagara today, according to C S Patil, director of the India Meteorological Department in Bengaluru. This alert indicates heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm. The ongoing rain since Sunday is attributed to Cyclone Fengal's impact.

Orange Alert in several districts

An orange alert has been announced for districts like Udupi, Chikmagaluru, and Chikkaballapura due to expectations of very heavy to heavy rainfall. IMD officials explained that an orange alert signifies very heavy rain ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm.
Precautionary Measures Taken

In response to continuous rains caused by Cyclone Fengal, Deputy Commissioners in Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Chamarajanagara, and Mysuru have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on December 2 as a precautionary measure. This decision aims to ensure safety amid the adverse weather conditions.

The situation remains under close observation by authorities who are prepared to take further action if necessary. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather reports and follow any instructions provided by local officials.

BBMP issues Helpline Numbers

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued helpline numbers for various zones to assist residents during the heavy rains. Citizens can report emergencies, waterlogging, or other issues and seek immediate support through these dedicated lines.
