Bangalore Metro Unveils Increased Yellow Line Train Frequency to Every 15 Minutes Starting November 1

As a Rajyotsava Day gift, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will increase the frequency of Namma Metro trains on the Yellow Line from November 1. Trains will now run every 15 minutes during peak hours instead of every 19 minutes. The 19-km Yellow Line, which connects RV Road

to Bommasandra, began operations in August with only three trains running every 25 minutes. This interval was later reduced to 19 minutes. With more trains being added, BMRCL plans to operate eight trains by the end of December, reducing waiting times to just 10 minutes during rush hours.

Increased Ridership on the Yellow Line

The number of commuters on the Yellow Line has been growing steadily, with nearly one lakh passengers using it daily. The RV Road Interchange Station, linking the Green and Yellow Lines, now sees a weekday footfall of around 45,000 passengers. According to a senior BMRCL official, five trains will operate during peak hours and four during non-peak hours starting November 1. "Running all trains continuously caused maintenance challenges, so one train will be withdrawn during non-peak hours," the official said.

Testing of Sixth Train

The fifth train set arrived by the end of September. BMRCL confirmed that the first and last train timings from both ends of the line will remain unchanged. The sixth train is currently undergoing testing at Titagarh Rail Systems and is expected to be dispatched by mid-November, with commercial service likely to start in December. The seventh and eighth trains are expected by year-end, though their production was delayed due to the late delivery of bogies from China.

By the end of the year, BMRCL aims to run trains every 10 minutes during busy hours, and full operations of the Yellow Line are expected next year.
