Assam's New Majuli-Jorhat Bridge: Rs 1019.16 Crore Approved for Better Connectivity

Assam is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade with the approval of Rs 1019.16 crore for the construction of a bridge over the Brahmaputra River. This bridge will connect Majuli, the world's largest river island, with Jorhat, improving connectivity and boosting economic growth. The project, approved by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will replace the current dependence on ferry services and provide a reliable link to the mainland.

Assam s New Majuli-Jorhat Bridge

A Bridge to Connect Majuli and Jorhat

The new bridge will be 6.8 kilometers long and is part of NH-715K. It will connect Majuli on the north bank of the Brahmaputra with Jorhat on the south bank. This bridge is expected to make travel easier for the people of Majuli, who currently rely on ferries to cross the river. With a permanent road link, transportation will become safer and more convenient.

Government's Commitment to Infrastructure Development

The project's budget was revised after a review by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) on March 6, 2025. Led by the Secretary of Road Transport & Highways, the committee approved the increased funding to ensure the bridge meets safety and durability standards. This financial boost will help speed up construction and complete the project efficiently.

Boosting Economy and Social Connectivity

The Majuli-Jorhat bridge is expected to bring many benefits to the region. It will make the transportation of goods and services easier, helping businesses grow. Farmers will be able to sell their produce more easily, and industries will find better access to markets. Additionally, people will have improved access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities. This project will not only improve transportation but also enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

A Step Towards a Stronger Assam

This project comes at a time when Assam is focusing on strengthening its infrastructure. Recently, a severe storm in Tinsukia district caused damage by uprooting trees and snapping power lines. The Majuli-Jorhat bridge will help create a more resilient transportation system, making it easier for people to travel even in difficult weather conditions.

The approval of Rs 1019.16 crore for the Majuli-Jorhat bridge marks a big milestone in Assam's development. It will reduce dependence on ferries, improve connectivity, and boost economic growth. With construction progressing, the people of Majuli and Jorhat eagerly await the benefits this bridge will bring, making travel easier and opening new opportunities for the region. This project is a testament to the government's commitment to building better infrastructure and improving lives.
