Gujarat is taking a big step towards fighting pollution by creating oxygen parks in major cities. These parks aim to improve air quality and provide green spaces for people to enjoy. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated an Oxygen Park at Sindhu Bhavan in Ahmedabad, marking a major milestone in this initiative.

The project is being carried out in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Junagadh. The main goal of these parks is to act as urban forests, helping cities breathe better. These parks are not just about greenery; they offer walking trails, yoga zones, birdwatching areas, and spaces for families to relax.
Features of Oxygen Parks
- Dense Greenery: The parks will have various trees and plants that produce high levels of oxygen.
- Recreational Areas: Facilities like walking paths, yoga spaces, and spots for birdwatching make them perfect for leisure and wellness.
- Environmental Benefits: The parks will help reduce pollution, cool urban areas, and support biodiversity.
New Location For Oxygen Parks
Ahmedabad already has several oxygen parks. For instance, the Sindhu Bhavan park covers 27,000 square meters with 1.67 lakh plants and trees. Another park in Science City, Hebatpur, has over 12,000 trees and shrubs spread across 4,000 square meters. The upcoming park in Tragad will have 75,000 trees and plants over 24,000 square meters.
Other cities are also joining this green mission. Rajkot has built an oxygen park featuring 150 species of plants. In Upaleta, five smaller parks are being developed with local support. In Kutch, the Lions Hospital has created a park with over 3,600 trees.

This initiative is not just driven by the government. Communities and social organizations are playing a big role. For example, the "One Pad Maa Ke Naam Abhiyan," launched on June 5, has already planted over 15 crore saplings across Gujarat. Individuals like Nilesh Rajgor are creating oxygen parks in places like Patan and Aravalli.
The development of oxygen parks is a sign of Gujarat's commitment to a healthier and greener future. These parks are not only reducing pollution but also providing beautiful spaces for people to relax and connect with nature. They are a shining example of how communities and governments can work together for a better environment.
This effort serves as a model for other regions to follow, showcasing how green initiatives can create lasting positive change for cities and their people.
