The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is on a mission to transform travel between Lucknow and Nepal, unveiling plans for a new four-lane highway stretching from Barabanki to Rupaidiha, near the India-Nepal border. This strategic project, with an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore, is set to reshape the landscape and bring about significant improvements in both travel time and business opportunities.
Reducing Travel Time and Facilitating Pilgrimage to Ayodhya
Anticipated to cover a distance of 150 kilometres, this new highway aims to cut down the travel time to Nepal from over three hours to a mere two hours. Such a reduction not only enhances convenience for travelers but also opens up avenues for increased business activities with our neighboring country. The improved highway to Ayodhya is already streamlining the journey for pilgrims visiting the Ram Temple, contributing to a seamless travel experience.
The NHAI is leaving no stone unturned to expedite the process of land acquisition and tendering for this ambitious project. Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia assures that one-way traffic will be maintained throughout the highway construction, ensuring minimal disruption. Post land acquisition, the NHAI plans to follow the successful model of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, transforming green fields into efficient roadways. This meticulous planning underscores the commitment to delivering enhanced connectivity in a time-efficient manner.
Reflecting on past achievements, the NHAI had previously invested in a 160-kilometre road from Barabanki to Rupaidiha in 2014, amounting to Rs 1,600 crore. The decision to construct a four-lane highway is a proactive step towards amplifying connectivity in the region, addressing the needs of approximately 25,000 daily commuters.
