North Central Railway (NCR) has announced 1,053 special train trips from October 1 to November 30, covering a 61-day festive period to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic during the upcoming festive season. These trains will help passengers with unconfirmed tickets travel to their hometowns and celebrate festivals with their families.
Special Trains on Demand
According to Dr Shivam Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), North Central Railway, the special services are being operated as Trains on Demand (TODs). He said that there is a possibility of adding more trains depending on passenger demand.
Special Trains to Connect Major Cities During the Festive Season
The special trains will connect several important destinations, including Kolkata, Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, New Delhi, Palwal, Anand Vihar Terminal, Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Gwalior, Dadri, Pune, Hadapsar, Khajuraho, Tiruchanur and Agra Cantt.
Special Arrangements have been Made to Manage the Festive Rush
NCR said it is taking steps to ensure safe and comfortable travel for passengers during the festive period. Railway officials are closely monitoring waiting lists on different routes. Passenger demand and ticket booking data collected through various platforms are being analysed to identify routes where additional trains may be required.
The railway zone is also focusing on crowd management at stations. Additional commercial staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at busy stations to help passengers and manage crowds.
Cleanliness will also remain a key priority during the festive season. According to Sharma, special attention is being given to maintaining cleanliness at stations as part of the ongoing Swachhata Abhiyan.
The frequency of the trains will depend on passenger demand. While some special services will operate only once during the festive period, others will run once or twice a week. NCR may further increase the number of special train trips based on demand and booking patterns.
