Mankote, popularly known as Ramkote, is one of the major towns in Billawar Tehsil. Located on a small hill on the banks of Basanter stream, it is a small town established by King Manak Dev. He was the successor of King Narsingh Dev of Jammu from 1272-1314. The town was renamed as Ramkote by King Suchet Singh, who ruled Jammu from 1822 to 1843.
