Gurugram residents have good news as the city is moving closer to expanding its metro network. The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two new metro corridors, which aim to improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and make daily travel

easier across the city.
Two Important Routes
The proposed metro expansion includes two important routes. The first corridor will run from Bhondsi to Gurugram Railway Station and will be about 17 kilometres long. It is expected to pass through busy and densely populated areas such as Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and Sohna Chowk. This line will connect major residential and commercial zones, helping commuters travel more smoothly.
The second corridor will be around 13.6 kilometres in length. It will connect Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5 through the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. This route is planned to improve east-west connectivity in Gurugram and provide better access to key housing and business areas.
Commuter's Study
Before finalizing the DPRs, HMRTC will conduct a detailed traffic and commuter study on both routes. This study will examine passenger demand, current traffic problems, and gaps in existing transport services. Based on the findings, decisions will be taken on station locations, interchange points, and the overall feasibility of the routes.
Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has been given the responsibility of preparing the DPRs. RITES was the only bidder for the project and was selected after approval by HMRTC's board. The company will be paid about Rs 14.1 million and is expected to complete the reports within six months.
Planning of Interchange Stations
To make travel easier, interchange stations are also planned. The Bhondsi-Railway Station line will be linked to the Old Gurugram Metro and the Delhi Metro. The second corridor will connect with existing metro lines at Millennium City Centre and Sector 5.
Meanwhile, Gurugram's Rapid Metro is seeing higher usage, with passenger numbers rising by nearly 15 percent compared to last year. This growing demand highlights the need for more metro lines and supports the city's plans for expansion.
