Bir is among the popular tourist destinations of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The major population of the town comprises refugees from the neighbouring country, Tibet. Apart from the study centres, Bir is an adventure sports destination too. Referred to as the ‘Paragliding Capital of India’, numerous Paragliding spots are present in this region. In the month of October, every year, the Department of Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Government of Himachal Pradesh hold a 'Paragliding Pre World Cup' event here. This popular global level paragliding competition draws a large number of visitors every year.

Further, travellers here can try their hands on another adventurous activity called hang-gliding. Introduced in 1980s, this sport is gaining popularity day by day. Since 1984, Bir has hosted three international and five national Hang-gliding events. The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Corporation, or HTDC, provides training courses for this sport every year.

Travellers can also visit the Chikling Gompa, the Bir Tea Factory, and the Tibetan Colony. The place is also an ideal location for nature lovers, as they can go for nature walks here.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport, or IGI Airport, situated in New Delhi is the closest international airport to the place. The nearest rail link to Bir is the Pathankot Railway Station that connects to other parts of the country. Travellers can easily avail buses for Bir from cities such as Chandigarh and New Delhi.
