Banswara Attractions - Tourist Places To Visit In Banswara

Tripura Sundari temple is located 19 km away from the headquarters of Banswara district. It is dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari, who is also known by the name of Turtia Maata. An idol of the Goddess carved from black stone enshrines the temple.

According to a folklore, the temple was built even before the rule of the Kushana dictator. The temple is renowned as a 'Shakti Peeth' and is considered sacred by the Hindus who worship Goddess Shakti or Parvati.

Mahi Dam in Banswara was constructed as a part of the Mahi Bajaj Sagar Project. As there are a large number of Islands inside the Mahi Dam catchment area, Banswara is also popular as the “City of Hundred Islands”. This dam is located at a distance of 16 km from Banswara district and can be easily reached by road.

Madareshwar Shiva Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a famous temple situated inside a natural cave located on a hilltop in the eastern part of the city. Since it is a Shiva temple inside a cave, devotees visiting this shrine liken it with the great pilgrimage of Amarnath.

Maha Shivratri is an important occasion when the Rudra Abhishek Pooja is carried out here. The temple serves as the starting point of the Kavadi Yatra that ends at Baneshwar Temple. The yatra is done on foot and includes bringing the water of river Mahi and conducting pooja (worship). The temple is located at a distance of 4 km from district headquarters and can be easily reached by taxis and two wheelers.

Shri Sai Baba Mandir, built on a hill top, is a famous temple dedicated to Sai Baba. Located at a distance of 1 km from the district headquarters, it can be easily reached by taxi or a tempo.

Diablab Lake is located at a distance of 1 km from the district headquarters and is a popular tourist attraction, thanks to its scenic beauty. This lake is partly covered with beautiful lotus flowers that enhance the charm of the lake. The summer residence of the former rulers, called Badal Mahal, is on the banks of the lake. People can enjoy boating on the lake during the summer season.

Kagdi Pick Up Weir is a major tourist attraction situated on the Ratlam road at a distance of 3 km from the Banswara district headquarters. Beautiful gardens, fountains and water stretching over a large area make it a hotspot for tourists.

Abdulla Pir is Abdul Rasul's dargah that is located in the southern part of the city. 'Urs” is celebrated here by the masses with gaiety every year. A large number of people from the Bohara community also participate in it. This shrine is located at a distance of 3 km from the district headquarters and can be reached easily by road.

Anand Sagar Lake is a beautiful artificial lake located on the eastern side of Banswara. It is said to have been built by Lachhi Bai of Idar, who was the Rani of Maharawal Jagmal. The chhatris or cenotaphs of the erstwhile rulers of the state are located close to the lake.

Holy trees called “Kalpa Vriksh”, which are believed to fulfil the desires of the visitors are also located near it. The lake is located at a distance of 3 km from the district headquarters and can be reached by buses and taxis.

Ram Kund is also called 'Phati Khan' as it is a deep cave under a hill. Surrounded by hills from all sides, this place is a treat for nature lovers. A pool of cold water is situated nearby, and is unique since it never dries up. People believe that Lord Ram, during his exile, spent some time at this place; hence, the name Ram Kund.

Bhim Kund is a beautiful place, located at a distance of 30 km from the district headquarters. According to folklore, it served as the residing place of the Pandavas during their exile (in the Mahabharata). A tunnel present here is believed to end at a far off place called Ghotiya Amba. People believe that the Pandavas used this tunnel during rains.

Cheench Brahma Temple is a 12th century temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. The statue of Brahma kept here is carved out of black stone and has a height equal to that of an average man. The shrine is located at a distance of 18 km from the district headquarters and can be easily reached by bus, taxi and tempo.

Shri Raj Mandir, popular by the name of City Palace, is an attractive 16th century castle. This palace, which is spread over a large area is the epitome of old Rajput architecture. The monument is owned by the royal family of Rajasthan and tourists can visit it only on invitation.

Arthuna is one of the most visited places of Banswara district and is a site of great archaeological importance. It has a complex having various exquisitely designed temples built in the 11th and 12th centuries.

Many shrines that have been excavated here reveal the glorious past of India's rich heritage. Owing to a large number of temples present here, though, Arthuna is often referred to as the village of old and broken temples. The region served as the capital to Parmar rulers in the ancient times.

Paraheada is a famous Shiv temple which dates back to the 12th century. The temple, located at a distance of 25 km from Banswara district headquarters, was built by King Mandalik. A large number of inscriptions are present here as a proof of the existence of Pramar emperors.

Talwara is a town located at a distance of 17 km from the Banswara district headquarters and is famous for ancient temples of Sun God and Lord Amaliya Ganesh. Laxmi Narayan Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple and Jain Temple of Sambharnath are other popular temples present here. As tourists take a walk on the road in Talwara, they can find many Sompura artists carving beautiful designs on stones.
