Thirthahalli is a taluk in shimoga district, Karnataka. Thirthahalli is famous for its mythology and nature. Thirthahalli is associated with two legends: The story of Parashurama and the story of Ramayana.
The legend of Parashurama and a legend set in Ramayana period is supposed to have happened in Thirthahalli. The name 'Parashurama Thirtha' or 'Rama Thirtha' would be the origin of the name Thirthahalli.
It is also the birth place of the great Kannada poet Kuvempu ( K.V. Puttappa). Hence, Thirthahalli in Karnataka is a famous place. The tourist places in Thirthahalli showcases the history and myth related to the place.

The bridge across the Tunga river

Tunga Bridge
The Tunga Bridge was built by Sir M.Visvesvaraya in 1962. Earlier, the bridge connected Thirthahalli to Kuruvalli. Now the Tunga bridge connects Thirthahalli to Koppa and Shringeri.

Rameshwara Temple
Sri Rameshwara temple is popular temple in Thirthahalli. It is a Shiva temple situated on the banks of river Tunga.
The temple is near to Parashurama Thirtha (a sacred place for Hindus). Annually, a five day festival is celebrated in the temple with all the grandeur.
Siddeshwara temple

Siddheshwara Gudda
Siddheshwara Hill and Anandagiri Hill are the two scenic places in Thirthahalli. They are situated near Agumbe road.
Kavishaila

Kupalli
Kupalli is the birth place of the great Kannada poet, playwright and a novelist Kuvempu. This scenic place once inspired Kuvempu ( K.V. Puttappa) to write great kannada literature.
Today Kuvempu's house is turned into a museum and is open for public. Near to this museum, there is a small hill called Kavishaila.
A circular rock monument made of megalithic rocks have been placed. Kuvempu was laid to rest im the middle of the monument, as this was where he used to write.
Chibbalagudde
Chibbalagudde is a beautiful location near Thirthahalli. There is a Ganesha temple on the banks of the river Tunga. There is also a place called Mrughavade where Malikarjuna swami temple is situated.
The Jain temple in Kundadri

Kundadri
The Kundadri is a beautiful hill which has a pond and an old Jain temple. It is near to Agumbe and Thirthahalli.
Kavaledurga Fort
Kavaledurga Fort was built in 9th C. It is located at a distance of 18 km from Thirthahalli. Kavaledurga fort or Bhuvanagiri was under the Nayaka's of Keladi.

The fort was renovated in 14th c by Cheluvarangappa. Now Kavaledurga Fort is not maintained well but still it is a tourist spot.
