The place remains secluded and unexplored to a very large extent, which gives one the entire place to explore without much restrictions.

Sylasur - A Delight For Nature Lovers

This hamlet is filled with large amounts of wildflowers and also with small temples. One of the most important temple here is the temple dedicated to Sati, which is atop a peak and is considered as the highest point of the town.

The town lies at a very close proximity to major hill stations in the state of Uttarakhand like Dehradun, which is situated around 78 km from here, Chamba, which is around 12 km, followed by Mussoorie, which is 33 km from here.

Best Time To Visit Kanatal

Kanatal is one of the places, which is gaining fame for its pleasant weather conditions throughout the year. The monsoon months of July and August can be avoided, as it brings heavy rainfall to this area.

According to the locals, there was an emerald lake here by the name Kanatal which dried up and hence the place got its name from the lake Kanatal, which in translation means 'one-eyed lake'. It is also a location that offers a brilliant trekking spot through the lush green forests of Kodia.

1. Surkanda Devi Temple

The temple is dedicated to Sati, and it believed that Lord Shiva got the body of Sati on his Trident here from Haridwar. The temple is located at an altitude of 2700 meters and is the highest point in Kanatal. The temple is also considered as one of the 51 Shaktipeethas across the country and offers you a panoramic view of the entire region and the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.

2. Kodia Jungle

The jungle is a well-preserved jungle which is filled with thick greenery, and has a number of natural springs. An easy trek stretching between 7 and 8 km would take you to the depths of the jungle, which opens up to the beautiful valleys and hills that are also home to a wide range of flora and fauna and also a large variety of birds.

3. Tehri Dam

One of the tallest dams in the world and the tallest in India, Tehri dam scales to a height of about 260 metres and is an engineering marvel to witness. The dam is also the site for the confluence of the two rivers of Bhagirathri and Bhilagna.

For tourists, there is an option of boating set up here to get a closer look of the dam, which is slowly becoming a major tourist attraction here.
