At least 18 people lost their lives, and over a dozen others were injured in a stampede that occurred late Saturday night at the New Delhi Railway Station. The incident was triggered by a sudden surge of passengers on platforms 14 and 15, as crowds gathered to board trains to Prayagraj, where the Maha Kumbh is currently underway.

This tragedy comes just days after another devastating stampede at the Maha Kumbh on January 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of at least 30 pilgrims and left 60 others injured. The stampede occurred when a massive crowd of devotees thronged the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya.
These back-to-back incidents serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for better crowd management and safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
