Shimla Tourism - The Hill Station Queen

Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the top tourist destinations in India. The picturesque city is situated in the northwestern part of the Himalayan Mountain Range.

Shimla tourism has quiet a few places of interest for the tourists who come here. A popular haven for adventure enthusiasts, Shimla is home to sports like mountain biking, skiing and para gliding.

Annandale

Originally planned as a playground, in the scenic locale of Annandale, at a height of 6711 ft, it is now under the Indian Army but visitors are allowed to see around the place.

Christ Church

One of the oldest churches in North India, Christ Church was built by the British in 1857 to serve the large Anglican British community in the area.

Built in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture, Christ Church is one of the long lasting legacies of British rule in India and is one of Shimla's most recognized landmarks.

Jakhoo Temple

The Jakhoo Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Located on Jakhoo Hill, 2.5 km from the Ridge, the Jakhoo Temple offers beautiful views of the Shivalik Mountains and the nearby town of Sanjauli.

Summer Hill

Located 5 km from the Ridge is the beautiful little township of Summer Hill. Sitting at an altitude of 5600 feet on the Shimla- Kalkarailway line, this is where Mahatma Gandhi used to stay when he used to visit Shimla.

The Mall

The Mall is the main shopping street of Shimla. It also has many restaurants, clubs, banks, bars, Post Offices and tourist offices. The Gaiety Theatre is also situated there.

How to Reach Shimla

By Air: Jubbarhatti Airport is the nearest airbase located at a distance of 25 km from Shimla town. This airport is well connected to major cities of the country by frequent flights.

By Train: There is a meter gauge railway station located in Shimla. The broad gauge station of Kalka is connected to this railhead. Regular trains are available from major cities of the country to the Kalka Railway Station.

By Road: Buses are available from nearby cities to Shimla. Delhi offers deluxe and non deluxe bus services to the place. Besides, tourists can also go to Shimla from Delhi by AC taxis.
