Legend of Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple

Ragi means Finger millet and Gudda means hillock in Kannada. It is believed that this idol of Anjaneya was formed out of a Ragi mound. Since the temple is located on a hillock, it became famous as Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple or Ragigudda Hanuman Temple in Bengaluru.

It is also said that the holy Trinities (Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara) wanted to stay near the temple. So, they transformed themselves into rocks and resided near the temple. Recently, the carvings of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara was done on these rocks.

Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple

Ragigudda Temple was built in 1972 and it has considerably gained popularity over the years. Today, Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple is one of the famous temples in Bengaluru (Bangalore).

Ragigudda Temple is located at Jayanagar 9th block, a well-known suburb in the city. The vast premises of temple and the age-old history attracts many visitors. The main temple is situated on a hillock and one has to walk through to reach the main temple.

The main shrine has the big idol of Lord Hanuman in the centre, statue of Rama, Lakshman, Sita along with Anjaneya on the right side and a Shiva Linga on the left side of the main sanctum.

At the foot of the hillock, there are other shrines for Ganesha, Rajarajeshwari Devi and Navagrahas. The Ragigudda Temple is well-developed and has all the facilities for the visitors.

Facilities at Ragigudda

Lift Facility for old people and physically challenged is available. The users have to pay Rs.10 per head to use this lift. This elevator takes the devotees to the main temple.

Drinking water facilities, place to leave footwear and dining hall is also there.

Free food is served on special occasions.

There is a chowltry named as Pawan Dhama which is rented out for functions like Upanayana, marriage and so on.

Fest and Fairs

Every year, Hanuman Jayanti (Birthday of Hanuman) is celebrated in a grand way. A fair is also organised where you can buy a lot of things. Ragigudda brimms with colours during this festival. Many people from around the city make it a point to come here on this day.
