Bengaluru's much-awaited Namma Metro Pink Line is expected to begin operations in September 2026. The opening of the elevated section is likely to improve public transport connectivity in several parts of south Bengaluru. However, commuters may face difficulties reaching some stations because supporting infrastructure and last-mile connectivity are still a concern.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line Opening Delayed
The elevated section of the Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara with Tavarekere. The stretch includes important locations along Bannerghatta Road and is expected to provide relief to people who regularly travel through this busy corridor. The opening was earlier planned for August 15, but it was postponed because some important approvals are still pending.
According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), construction work on the elevated section has largely been completed. The remaining steps include approval from the Railway Board for the trains and a safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The exact date of the public opening will depend on these clearances.
While the new Metro service is expected to make daily travel easier, reaching the stations could remain a challenge for many passengers. Better roads, pedestrian facilities, feeder buses, parking arrangements and other last-mile transport options are needed around the stations. Without these facilities, commuters may still have to depend on private vehicles, autos or other modes to reach the Metro.
The complete Pink Line is planned to run for about 21.3 km between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara. Its underground section, running from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, is still under construction. Civil work has been completed in several areas, while electrification and signalling work are progressing. BMRCL has targeted the completion of the underground section by mid-2027.
Once the entire Pink Line becomes operational, it is expected to provide stronger north-south connectivity and reduce dependence on road transport. However, improving access to stations will be important to ensure that the Metro delivers its full benefits to Bengaluru commuters.
