Mumbai’s immersion night on Friday, September 25, will see a rare local tweak. Western Railway will make 101 Up slow locals skip Charni Road, 5 pm to 11:30 pm. Another 37 Up fast locals will halt at every station from Mumbai Central to Churchgate. Plan alternate boarding before Marine Lines.
Officials say the aim is safe, staggered dispersal near Girgaum Chowpatty’s catchment. The change was introduced “keeping in view the expected heavy passengers rush and to ensure the safety of devotees”. Three 15-car through-line services will also skip Grant Road, Charni Road and Marine Lines.

If Charni Road is your stop, use the windowed matrix below. The skip applies to Up slow services at Platform 2 only. Extra-halting fast locals spread passengers along the corridor for safer exits. Marine Lines handles heavy dispersal better than Charni Road.

Western Railway services: last locals and alternate stations near Chowpatty
Late-night returns are planned too on the Western line. Six pairs of Churchgate–Virar specials will halt at all stations overnight. Down trains leave Churchgate between 1:15 am and 3:45 am. Up trains leave Virar between 12:15 am and 3:00 am. For Chowpatty, consider Marine Lines, Grant Road or Churchgate, all within roughly 1–3 km.
Metro/BEST late-night pointers and traffic diversions
Metro operators have extended hours during Ganeshotsav. Lines 2A and 7 lead late-night services, with last trains near 12:30 am. Expect 10–15 extra trips on heavy corridors; Aqua Line runs till midnight. BEST has also rostered 26 additional night buses on ten routes through September 25. Crowd control will prioritise spillover-free stations and safer last‑mile options.
Road curbs begin at noon and run till 6 am across south and central Mumbai. Marine Drive diversions apply as required; consider the Coastal Road for cross-town trips.
