7 Mind Boggling facts about Russia

Known as the city of giants, Russia has earned its place in the world as the most powerful and culturally rich country. Russia is the largest country in the world that represents 11% of land mass on the planet. What excites me about Russia is that, since from the most sophisticated era, Russia has been subjected to propaganda and considered wholly different in each person's view. Usually a vogue picture of backwardness and cold stricken mass.

While there is Russia, standing tall like it has always been with its innumerable accolades, its millions of freshwater lakes; Europe's longest river; the world's deepest lake; a rich history and people with bow-to- thee moral code. You can call Russia, the land of superlatives. Home to many cosmopolitan cities and diverse arts and traditions, Russia will always surprise you. Here is a list of facts about Russia that will make you open your mouth and never let you close -

Russia

Like brothers!

Oh boy the irony... America and Russia are 4kms close to each other. The real distance from Russia and Alaska (USA) is apx 4kms from the sea. It is closer to fly from Chicago to Moscow than to Rio de Janeiro!

The northern Venice

St. Petersburg in Russia is called the northern Venice. St. Petersburg is the town of bridges and channels just like Venice! More than 60 different channels cross city to 42 small islands with 500 bridges and 20 incredible drawbridges.

The St. Petersburg center is also one of the UNESCO sites like Rome and Paris. So, take the boat trip! One of the most beautiful travel destination on the planet.

Russia

Russians are real explorers

What we don't know about Russia and their exploits is that, they are adrenaline driven adventurers and explores. Not recently but centuries ago. They found Antarctica during the 800-day expedition to the South. They also made millions of expeditions to the Central Asia, Siberia, and the Arctic.

If you just take a look at the Siberia map, you will know from how and where they made their way. Crossing the deadly Siberia, they reached the Pacific Ocean and didn't stop there! In further expeditions, Russians sailed to North America and conquered Alaska! See... that's Badass.

Even now, you can find Russian explorers, like Denis Provalov, who has been to the deepest caves and climbed the Everest.

The Frozen Kingdom

Russia is known as the frozen kingdom for its extremely cold climate. Permafrost covers 65% of the Russian territory. Siberia occupies 77% of Russia. People should understand that, there are not that many people who choose to live in these extreme weather. There are many big and beautiful cities in Russia. Factually, only 25% of Russians dwell in Siberia.

Russia is an Empire!

Russians live simply. Even without money at times. This is a crucial point to understand Russians. They are proud of their country. Not in the sense of economy or whatever new gender neutral shit is going on these days, Russians prefer an empire.

I mean, isn't it impossible to forget that the Russian Empire expanded from Eastern Europe to North America (Alaska was a Russian territory). The USSR was one of the largest countries in the world. Their response to crap is definitely going to be brutal.

Russia

Drop-to-the-knee Cultural Heritage

Russia is famous for its culture. Russia is hugely rich for its cultural heritage. They are art lovers! Not to forget the Hermitage museum (world's second largest museum) which is only second in size to the Louvre. Art, ballet, opera, literature, architecture , Russian heritage is extraordinary. St.

Petersburg plays the role of modern cultural capital in Russia. Boasting over 2000 libraries, 200 museums, and 100 theaters. Moscow is famous for culture too. Tretyakovskaya Gallery and Pushkinsky Museum are a perfect place for Art and Sculpture lovers! Not to forget all the majestic churches and Russian architectural marvels.

WWII - Bad but Good

The main reason Hitler was defeated in WWII was because of Russia. At the cost of 20 million Russian people. It is a great tragedy. USSR was the first country that really managed to harm the German's army.

Hitler's plan to conquer Russia, just faded into 5 long and fruitless years of War. They are not quitters. Not that I can remember. Not as of the present. You can find the WWII traces in all the European parts of Russia.
