Two New Railway Lines: Indian Railways is Planning to Add Two New Railway Lines

Indian Railways is planning to add two new railway lines on the Vadodara-Ratlam section to increase train capacity on the busy Delhi-Mumbai route. The Western Railway plans to construct third and fourth railway lines along about 259 km between Vadodara in Gujarat and Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.

Two New Railway Lines

The Vadodara Ratlam section is an important part of the Golden Quadrilateral rail network and carries a large number of passenger and freight trains between the Delhi and Mumbai regions. The addition of two more lines is expected to reduce pressure on the existing railway infrastructure and allow more passenger and goods trains to operate.

According to Western Railway, the project will provide additional capacity on the busy corridor and make train operations faster, smoother, safer and more punctual. It is also expected to improve the movement of both passenger and freight trains by reducing congestion and giving railway authorities greater flexibility in managing services.

How will these New Rail Lines Benefit Passengers?

The project will further strengthen rail connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Better railway infrastructure along the corridor is also expected to support industrial and commercial activities in the region by making the transportation of goods more efficient.

Apart from the Vadodara Ratlam project, another important railway infrastructure upgrade has been planned near Vadodara. The 33 km Vishwamitri Dabhoi railway line will be doubled at an estimated cost of Rs 394 crore.

The Vishwamitri Dabhoi route currently has only a single railway line, which limits the number of trains that can operate on it. Once the doubling work is completed, the route will have greater capacity, allowing trains to run more smoothly and improving punctuality. The Vishwamitri Dabhoi line is also important for connectivity to the Statue of Unity. The doubling project is expected to increase rail capacity and make train travel more convenient for tourists visiting the popular destination.

Together, these projects are expected to improve railway capacity, connectivity and train operations in Gujarat and along the Delhi-Mumbai corridor.
